Alice In Wonderland! So fun! I knew this costume before last years Halloween even happened. Twin boys would make perfect
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum!
Because I neeeed to use my hands creatively as often as possible, I knew I’d be making my dress, basically from scratch. I found the red
dress for under $10 at some cheap store. Bought some ribbon and curtain trim and went to town! Adam made tons of runs on the way
home from work to various thrift shops. He found lace curtains for $1 that I cut up for detail on a few of our outfits!
It would have made sense to use a sewing machine, but since I’d work on this in any spare minutes I had throughout the days, (we started
5 weeks out!) hand stitching was just easier. And fabric glue in lots of places. 🙂 Let’s talk about how easy it is to layout and work on the
floor with 4 kids. Also, how damn pretty is Nico?!
My friend Kelly urged me to go the extra mile and create a collar. I used Adam’s shirt as a pattern, adjusted it, then sewed in wire for form.
Adam was completely in charge of his costume. All the elements of his costume were so cheap or scraps of stuff we had here.
Because we chose to do Tim Burton’s version, Nori’s natural curls were perfect for Alice! We added the striped leggings because Burton
loves the stripes and is notorious for that detail…plus it was cold. 🙂 Dress was online for less that $10 because Adam is an exceptional
interweb surfer.
All hand me downs or thrift shop finds for Nico as the White Rabbit!
Adam had all his elements too, with the exception of the wig that wasn’t even $15. I cut a few pieces off to make his eye brows and used
liquid latex to adhere them. No eyebrows were lost in the process, surprisingly. 😉 He made his bobbin sash by cutting a letter belt in half, poking holes in the leather and attaching the yarn ends. That way the length was adjustable in back. Clever!
My dress turned out pretty good, so long as you didn’t look close at all my unfinished edges. I definitely busted some stitches since I didn’t
take picking up and holding kids into consideration. My $15 wig was the most expensive part. Everything else was 50% off ribbon or fabric
from Hobby Lobby and a few bucks per yard.
” I love my fat boys!” said the Queen of Hearts. Aren’t they perfect for Tim Burton’s version?! We had the shorts and the other 3 elements
we got in two packs online from China for mad cheap. So easy!!
Double click the image of me and the boys below and it’s a video dubsmash with the voice of the real actress. 🙂

The movie characters in case you weren’t familiar!
Another year down. I already know what I want to do next year, just have to get Adam on board. 🙂 Hope you all had a great Halloween!!
Heart, Alice and her imagination.
